Help using our Site

Navigation

We have laid out our site in what we hope is a straightforward way using a conventional menu which is similar to other church websites.  The seven main SECTIONS are set out across the top of every page, with the Sub-pages for the section selected listed vertically on the right hand side.  A single click will select the relevant Section or Sub-page - see that the name of the page selected changes from blue to black.

There are many other pages on the site which are not immediately apparent, for reasons of clarity of navigation.    These pages can be accessed from links in the site or else from the Website Map (which lists all the pages on our site).

Searching this Site

Type in your search criteria in the "Search:" box on the right of the page, for instance "electoral roll", and press enter.  The pages where this exact phrase appears will be listed and you will need to scroll down to find where this happens.   You may also want to use a search engine such as Google including the word Wonersh in the search criteria.

Links

Some text is underlined and are "links" (or Hyperlinks).  This is a quick way of being directed to another page, either on our own site or externally.  To follow a link just point to it and single click. External links usually open as a new window so you can continue to refer back to the original page.  Otherwise use the back arrows in the top left corner of the browser.

Locked Pages

When you select some pages you will be asked for an I/D and password.   These are pages which may contain information which is of interest only to people of the parish.  As a general rule we do not place any personal information on the website at all (see Privacy Policy).  To obtain the I/D and password look in our printed Parish Magazine, News Sheet of in a notice on the porch of our church, or else Contact Us .

Resources

This is a posh word for various pages that serve some function.  For instance you can :-

  • download directly our Rotas and programmes, or else our policies, handouts and newssheet.
  • see all the pages of the site on the website map
  • get help if you are an Editor, or else see what the Website Steering Group are up to.
  • If you have a comment about our site and want to contact the webmaster, use the "Your Comments" form.

Podcast

This is a page which presents all our sermon audio files.  If you have not already done so, you can subscribe to itunes (which sounds like it costs but is actually free) and then new sermons can be downloaded automatically your PC or ipod.

Parish News

Items describing events and news are now being posted on www.wonershchurch.blogspot.com and a feed is set up to the Welcome page of the most recent six items.  Alternatively all the posts can be read by following the link to the blog itself.  In addition there are links to the CofE and Guildford Diocese News blogs.  This new feature is described fully in Wonersh Weblog page.    Contact Us if you want to have permission to make posts.

Church History and Searching our Registers

We have a Section about our heritage & history, but it is not shown on the main menu.  It can be accessed in several ways:-

  • by selecting "About Us" from the Main Menu, then "Our Buildings and Villages" and then clicking the photos of our churches.
  • directly from "Parish Heritage" from the Website Map).
  • using the Search function.
