Community Garden

Grow with us!

Our Community Garden is a place where vegetables, flowers, and community spirit flourish together. Set within the beautiful grounds around St John’s, the garden exists as a blessing to the whole village—somewhere people can slow down, breathe deeply, and take joy in tending the soil alongside others.

Everything we grow is for the community. The vegetables we harvest are shared locally, the flowers brighten our worship and our village spaces, and the garden itself offers a peaceful corner for anyone who needs a moment of quiet. It’s a space shaped by generosity, care, and the simple joy of watching things grow.

The garden is lovingly overseen by Calum, a gardener by trade, whose skill and passion have helped transform the space into what it is today. Calum leads with warmth and encouragement, welcoming people of all ages and abilities to have a go. You don’t need any gardening experience—Calum is brilliant at showing you what’s needed, and there’s always something simple you can do. Truly, if you can hold a watering can, you’re fully qualified.

A place to belong

People join in for all sorts of reasons:

  • To enjoy the fresh air and rhythm of the seasons

  • To meet neighbours and make new friends

  • To learn about growing fruit, veg, and flowers

  • To contribute to something that blesses others

  • To find a calm and grounding place in the week

Whether you have five spare minutes on your way past, a free hour once in a while, or would like to join us for our usual Saturday morning slot from 10:00–12:00, you’ll be warmly welcomed. We can be flexible if those times don’t work for you—every contribution makes a difference.

What you might get involved in

There’s always something happening in the garden, including:

  • Planting seeds and seedlings

  • Watering during dry spells

  • Weeding and light maintenance

  • Harvesting vegetables to share

  • Cutting flowers for church and community spaces

  • Enjoying a chat, a cup of coffee, and the sunshine

No pressure, no expectations—just a gentle space to join in when you can.
