A Peaceful Church in the Heart of the Hills
St Martin’s is a small and prayerful church nestled in the wooded village of Blackheath. Built in 1893, it was designed in the style of an Italian wayside chapel, and is named after St Martin’s, Canterbury. The church is best known for its remarkable Pre-Raphaelite wall paintings by American artist Anna Lea Merritt, created in 1894–95.
Re-joined with the Parish of Wonersh in 1998, St Martin’s shares its vicar and ministry team with St John’s. For over 125 years, the church has stood at the heart of Blackheath village—offering a quiet place for prayer, worship, and community gathering.

A Place of Welcome and Stillness
St Martin’s is more than just a Sunday space. It is a sacred and much-loved part of village life. The church regularly hosts concerts, talks, and community events, and remains open each day for quiet prayer and reflection.
We are proud to support the people of Blackheath not just in worship, but in the practical rhythms of life, care, and neighbourliness.
