Weddings
A sacred and joyful beginning
Marriage is a beautiful and lifelong commitment, and we would be honoured to support you as you prepare for your wedding day. Whether you’re recently engaged, exploring what marriage in church involves, or just starting to ask questions, we’re here to help.
Weddings can take place at both of our churches:
-
St John the Baptist, Wonersh – a historic village church with a timeless atmosphere and traditional beauty
-
St Martin’s, Blackheath – a peaceful woodland chapel with unique charm and stunning Pre-Raphaelite wall paintings
Both offer a deeply meaningful and personal setting to celebrate your love and make your vows before God, your family, and friends.
Who Can Get Married Here?
You’re welcome to be married in one of our churches if one of the following applies:
-
You live in the parish (Wonersh or Blackheath)
-
You worship regularly at either church
-
You have a qualifying connection, such as:
-
You were baptised or confirmed here
-
Your parents or grandparents were married here
-
You or your parents have lived in the parish for at least six months at some point
-
If you’re not sure whether you qualify, get in touch—we’d love to talk it through with you.
What to Expect
A church wedding is rich with meaning. Together, you will make sacred vows, ask for God’s blessing, and celebrate with your loved ones in a beautiful setting.
We’ll guide you through:
-
The legal requirements and paperwork
-
Choosing music, readings, and vows
-
Planning a service that reflects your story and faith journey
We offer marriage preparation, including a friendly session with the vicar to help you think not just about the day—but the life you’re building together.
We’re also here to support you in the months and years beyond your wedding, as you grow in love and faith.
Wedding Blessings
If you are already legally married (including civil marriages or weddings abroad), we would be delighted to offer a Service of Thanksgiving and Blessing in church—a joyful way to renew your vows and invite God’s presence into your marriage.
Next Steps
If you're thinking about getting married at St John’s or St Martin’s, we’d love to hear from you.
