Pastoral Care
Walking with you through every season
Life brings both joy and sorrow, strength and struggle. At St John the Baptist, Wonersh and St Martin’s, Blackheath, we believe the Church is called to be a place of care, prayer, and community through it all.
Our pastoral care team exists to support you—whether you’re facing illness, loneliness, grief, or simply the everyday challenges of life. You don’t have to be a regular churchgoer to receive care. We are here for anyone in our villages who needs a listening ear, prayer, or practical help.
When You Might Need Support
You might want to speak with someone or request a visit if:
-
You are unwell, recovering from surgery, or housebound
-
You are experiencing bereavement, grief, or loss
-
You are feeling lonely, overwhelmed, or in need of encouragement
-
You would like prayer, Holy Communion at home, or a pastoral conversation
-
A friend or neighbour you know is in need of care or support
How We Can Help
Our clergy and trained Pastoral Care Team can offer:
-
Friendly home or phone visits
-
Prayer and encouragement
-
Communion at home or in hospital
-
Bereavement listening support
-
Practical help (where possible) in times of need
-
A link into wider church life or local support services
We also have a dedicated Bereavement Team, who are available to sit, listen, pray, and gently walk with you in the weeks and months after a loss.
We offer confidential support wherever possible, while always respecting appropriate safeguarding boundaries to ensure everyone’s safety and wellbeing.
Spiritual Support
You may be navigating big questions or simply need space to talk and be heard. Whether you’re full of faith, feeling distant from it, or unsure where to begin—we will always meet you with gentleness and respect.
We also offer:
-
Prayer requests – for yourself or someone you love
-
Prayer ministry after some services
-
Opportunities for healing prayer, or spiritual direction (by arrangement)
